The first written evidence that mentions ther potter profession in La Bisbal d'Empordà dates back to 1.511. Craftsman, creator, artist, almost an alchemist, la Bisbal potters are often the last of a family of potters who have shaped clay for generations. Today, la Bisbal is the capital of the ceramic industry, a pottery center of international reference. The authentic ceramics of La Bisbal de l’Empordà, both utilitarian and decorative, can be easily recognised by their predominant colours (red, straw yellow, bottle green and navy blue). Most of the pieces can be identified by their glazed finished as well. 

One way to understand this craft and meet locals is visit a pottery workshop guided by one of its craftspeople.
