La Bisbal d’Empordà is the pottery capital of Catalonia. In the Terracotta Museum, you can find out about its more than 500 years of tradition. The area is characterised by its narrow silhouettes of old industrial chimneys and by a commercial area linked to various pottery products that line its streets with colour. You will find the greatest concentration of pottery shops in the area in Carrer Aigüeta in La Bisbal d’Empordà.
Today, the old shopping center for excellence in the town retains a rich architectural heritage. The narrow streets and numerous old buildings show the original structure of the city and the layout of the old walls. Bisbal is a place to savor calmly, without haste and in a relaxed manner. During your visit, look 100-year-old shops and bakeries!
In the historic centre, you will find the Palace Castle, one of the best preserved mediaeval origin civil castles in Catalonia. The Palace Castle is currently part of the Route of the origins of Catalonia. An audiovisual aid explains the conflicts between the feudal lords and their vassals in mediaeval times. And the noble floor can be visited thanks to some outstanding virtual historic characters. From the rooftop and more so from the tower, the views over the Emporda region are superb.
